OSCAR NOMINATION FOR OLD BOY SEAN WALKER

While this comes a little after the 2022 Oscars we will never miss the chance to celebrate HIBS Old Boys and their achievements. Massive congratulations go to Sean Walker who was nominated for an Oscar for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

This bio from Weta Digital shows us just how talented Sean is. Check this out to see some of what Sean has been up to since leaving HIBS in 1999.

"One of Weta Digital’s VFX Supervisors and a loyal fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sean has worked on nearly every MCU film Weta has been involved with. Sean built his

career within Weta Digital and most recently was the VFX Supervisor on Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings and Black Widow.

For Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Sean led his team to create the third act battle, which included hero creatures, significant water simulations, and environment

creation and destruction.

Before Shang-Chi, Sean was Weta’s VFX and Onset Supervisor for Black Widow (2021), and VFX Supervisor on the Academy® and BAFTA-nominated Avengers: Endgame

(2019). Prior to this, he was CG Supervisor of the Academy Award® nominated films Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) and Iron Man 3 (2013). Sean’s early work in lighting as a Technical Director on the ground-breaking Avatar (2009), and later as a Lead on the acclaimed Planet of the Apes and The Hobbit trilogies laid the foundation for his art direction skills and established

his expertise in photoreal VFX for blockbuster films."

We look forward to the next (currently secret) project Sean is involved in. No doubt we will see his name on the big screen at the Oscars again sometime soon.
