A word from Joel Bull, HIBS Old Boys Chairperson (Class of 1999)

Updated: Jun 10, 2024

Earlier this month, the 2023 HIBS Yearbook was issued. In it, I extended warm congratulations to Jed Machirus, the first recipient of the HIBS Old Boys

Scholarship in 2022. Following printing of the latest edition, we also celebrated Ben Norris as our 2023 recipient. It was fantastic to celebrate these HIBS men of character - and we look forward to hearing of their future endeavours and being part of our Old Boys network.

A key achievement in 2023 was progressing a new database of former HIBS students from 1991-2023. This continues to be a complex programme of work and once completed, the register will allow improved connections with our alumni and nurture a stronger Old Boys’ community.  Thanks went to Matthew Chan (Class of 2000) for steering this project.

A particular highlight in 2023 was the strong participation of Old Boys at HIBS Annual Golf Day last September. Being one of the school’s key fundraisers it was great to see so many Old Boys participating. Contributions from Old Boys go a long way in helping our current boys' benefit from exceptional resources.

The 2024 events calendar kicked-off earlier this year with Principal Tom Gordon hosting an enjoyable event for Old Boys and their sons who are current students of the school.

More events are in planning stages - make sure to stay connected through our Facebook page.  Your attendance and support is greatly appreciated.

We said goodbye to Mark Hudson (Class of 2005) as Treasurer for the Old Boys Association and welcomed Sam Thomson (Class of 2015) into the role.

Finally, a reminder if you would like to get involved with the Old Boys Association, would like to contribute, share memories and photos, or have any feedback for trustees, contact us at oldboys@hibs.school.nz.
